Field notes

A week through Damascus, Aleppo, and Palmyra.

Damascus first — the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Mosques, the souk, the old town that feels half-medieval.

Then north to Aleppo for the citadel and the souk, and east into the desert to the Roman ruins at Palmyra. We crossed into Lebanon on the 18th.

"The souk in Damascus could swallow a whole day."
